What do I need - beside fast legs - to have high-end material? No fear, you don't need to be a mechanic to get the best out of your rollskis. These few hints are enough:
Ingredients for a fast rollski:
- Brake cleaner (you can get this at every gas station or garage)
- Ball bearings you can open on the inside or you can remove the protective hood (eg ABEC 7)
- Smooth running oil
- Open ball bearings and clean the dirt and grease with the brake cleaner. It is the best to spray the cleaner in and let them rotate in your hand.
- Put the the bearings downside up to get the remaining cleaner out. Attention: use an underlayment and maybe not on the dinner table to avoid taints. Let them try.
- Put the bearings up again and put a few drops of the ois in every bearing. Let the bearings rotate in your hands a few times afterwards to despense the oil.
- Assemble the bearing in the rolls. Special 100mm rolls for rollskis or 100 mm rolls for Inline-Skates. (eg: Matter Gelb, Hyper 85A, X-Tech,...)
- FINISH (was a good strategy for the Austrian Inline record over the marathon distance in 53:51,0)
Have fun,
Tom
